Age in 2026
| Situation | Age | Calculation |
|---|---|---|
| Birthday already passed | 73 | 2026 β 1953 |
| Birthday still ahead | 72 | 2026 β 1953 β 1 |
Your age only becomes exact once the birthday is known, which is why the calculator above asks for a full date. Korea additionally uses a "year age" (2026 β 1953 = 73) in a few laws such as military service and youth protection, and used a traditional counting age of 74 before the 2023 reform that made international age the default.
π 1953 is the Year of the Snake
In the Chinese zodiac, 1953 is the Year of the Snake. The cycle turns on the lunar new year rather than 1 January, so anyone born in January or early February may belong to the previous sign, the Dragon. Check the lunar new year date for 1953 if your birthday falls in that window.
