15% Off Calculator
How a 15% discount works, the final price for common amounts, and the stacking mistake people make most often.
How to calculate it
Discount = price × 15 ÷ 100
Final = price × 85 ÷ 100 = price × 0.85Multiplying by the remaining share is faster than subtracting. For 15% off, multiply the price by 0.85 and that is what you pay.
15% off by price
| Original | Discount | You pay |
|---|---|---|
| 5,000 | 750 | 4,250 |
| 10,000 | 1,500 | 8,500 |
| 15,000 | 2,250 | 12,750 |
| 20,000 | 3,000 | 17,000 |
| 30,000 | 4,500 | 25,500 |
| 50,000 | 7,500 | 42,500 |
| 100,000 | 15,000 | 85,000 |
| 200,000 | 30,000 | 170,000 |
| 500,000 | 75,000 | 425,000 |
| 1,000,000 | 150,000 | 850,000 |
Working backwards to the original price
Original = discounted ÷ 0.85If a 15%-off price is 85,000, the original was 85,000 ÷ 0.85 = 100,000. Adding 15% back is not the same operation as dividing by 0.85.
Stacked discounts do not add up
Taking 15% off and then a further 10% is not 25% off. The second discount applies to the already-reduced amount: 0.85 × 0.9 = 0.765, an effective discount of 23.5%.
