5% Off Calculator
How a 5% discount works, the final price for common amounts, and the stacking mistake people make most often.
How to calculate it
Discount = price × 5 ÷ 100
Final = price × 95 ÷ 100 = price × 0.95Multiplying by the remaining share is faster than subtracting. For 5% off, multiply the price by 0.95 and that is what you pay.
5% off by price
| Original | Discount | You pay |
|---|---|---|
| 5,000 | 250 | 4,750 |
| 10,000 | 500 | 9,500 |
| 15,000 | 750 | 14,250 |
| 20,000 | 1,000 | 19,000 |
| 30,000 | 1,500 | 28,500 |
| 50,000 | 2,500 | 47,500 |
| 100,000 | 5,000 | 95,000 |
| 200,000 | 10,000 | 190,000 |
| 500,000 | 25,000 | 475,000 |
| 1,000,000 | 50,000 | 950,000 |
Working backwards to the original price
Original = discounted ÷ 0.95If a 5%-off price is 95,000, the original was 95,000 ÷ 0.95 = 100,000. Adding 5% back is not the same operation as dividing by 0.95.
Stacked discounts do not add up
Taking 5% off and then a further 10% is not 15% off. The second discount applies to the already-reduced amount: 0.95 × 0.9 = 0.855, an effective discount of 14.5%.

Open Percent CalculatorFrequently asked questions
How do I calculate 5% off?
Multiply the price by 0.95 for the final amount, or by 0.05 for the discount itself.
What is 5% off 100,000?
95,000. The discount amount is 5,000.
